Juicy grilled nectarines topped with a Balsamic Basil reduction!   The perfect way to enjoy summer!

It’s Grilling Season!

Ooh boy do I have a yummy treat for you!  Summer is (mostly) here in the PNW and that means we are grilling!  Yep, I dusted off the grill after a super wet and rainy winter!  I’m grilling tofu, pizza, and most importantly— nectarines!  And do you know what makes grilled nectarines even better?  Sauce!  Sweet and sticky balsamic sauce!  With Dorot basil!

This yummy dessert is so easy to make, thanks to help from my new kitchen friend Dorot!  Dorot is a brand of flash frozen herbs, including garlic, ginger, basil, and cilantro, conveniently packaged into small 1 teaspoon amounts.  The herbs are pre chopped so all you need to do is pop them out of their tray and into your dish.  Easy!  The herbs are super fresh—from field to tray in just 90 MINUTES!

I love the convenience of these easy herbs!  How many times have you gone to prep a meal, only to find out that your herbs have gone to herb heaven in the produce drawer of your fridge?  But with Dorot, they are always fresh, always ready when you need them!  The ginger cubes would be perfect to use in Asian inspired sauces, the cilantro would be add an amazing flavor boost to your rice, and you can jazz up a quick weeknight pasta dish with ready-to-go basil!

Because they are already so finely chopped, they are the perfect addition to any sauce!  I simmered balsamic vinegar and strawberry jelly together to make a rich and delicious sauce, adding cubes of basil for a fresh flavor that really stands out!  It’s the perfect pair with sweet juicy nectarines!

Look how easy it is to make grilled nectarines with a Balsamic Basil Reduction!

Dorot is available in many major grocery stores, including Whole Foods, Trader Joe’s and Kroger.  You’ll find it in the freezer section, near the frozen vegetables.  It was on the top shelf in my local Whole Foods!  Check out my wild crew—we certainly make our presence known in the grocery store!

Ok, let’s get grilling!  I hope you love this fun summertime treat!  When you make it, take a picture and post it to social media!  Be sure to tag me so that I can see!  {#frieddandelions // @frieddandelions}  Don’t forget to check out Dorot and learn more about their delicious products!

Grilled Nectarines with Balsamic Basil Reduction

Juicy grilled nectarines topped with a Balsamic Basil reduction! The perfect way to enjoy summer!
Prep Time5 mins
Cook Time10 mins
Total Time15 mins
Course: Vegan
Cuisine: Dessert
Author: Sarah De la Cruz

Ingredients

  • 2 ripe nectarines
  • 1/4 cup balsamic vinegar
  • 1/4 cup strawberry jelly smooth, not chunky!
  • 4 Dorot basil cubes
  • non dairy vanilla ice cream
  • oil for grilling optional

Instructions

  • Preheat your grill.
  • Slice your nectarines into two halves. It may be easier to slice around the pit (as shown in video) than to try to slice in half and twist away from the pit—do what works best for you!
  • Brush a tiny bit of neutral oil on the cut side of the nectarines to prevent them from sticking to the grill.
  • Place the nectarines, cut side down, on the grill.
  • Meanwhile, prepare the Balsamic Basil sauce. Place balsamic vinegar, strawberry jelly, and Dorot basil cubes in a small saucepan and heat over medium low heat.
  • Whisk together until smooth, and then continue whisking occasionally as sauce reduces. Allow sauce to reduce by about half. When you wipe your finger through the sauce on a spatula it should leave a trail (see video above). Then you'll know it's ready!
  • Remove nectarines from the grill.
  • Top with a scoop of non dairy ice cream and drizzle with Balsamic Basil sauce.
  • Enjoy quickly—things are about to get melty!

Ha, yes, isn’t it cool? It’s from the Cat and Jack kids’ line at Target, though we got it last fall, so I don’t think they have it anymore. But they do have great clothes, so I’m sure they’ll have something else fun soon!

This looks amazing! I love grilled desserts. Who wants to spoil the fun of a cookout by coming inside? Using herb cubes is a genius idea. It’s so sad when you need fresh herbs, but the ones in the produce drawer are past their prime. I find I have the biggest problem with cilantro. I just can’t use a bunch fast enough! And I noticed that Dorot does have cilantro cubes. That’s a win!

The Balsamic reduction is NOTHING but sugar so it all goes to blood sugar increases along with the high sugar fruit.

That’s ok Judith, you certainly don’t have to make my recipe if it doesn’t work for you. Personally, I feel like a piece of fruit is one of the healthiest choices you can make for a dessert! Certainly healthier than a slice of cake or a cookie, if you are being mindful of your sugar intake. It’s also important to keep in mind that a dessert is a treat, and not a staple part of anyone’s diet!

Peaches are my favourite summer fruit with nectarines not far behind. So this dessert has my name written all over it. Can’t wait to try when nectarines come into season up here 🙂

Ha, I’m just the opposite! I love juicy peaches, but not their fuzzy skin, so nectarines always win for me!

Grilled peaches and nectarines are a specialty of my dads!! My parents have these amazing trees and we grill them every summer and eat it with vanilla ice cream. I do love balsamic with my fruit though too (a really good balsamic) it especially is delicious with strawberries. Sounds so yum!!
