Hungry Caterpillar Fruit Snacks

My sweet baby has been sick for a whole week now—his doctor thinks he has some kind of flu. As a result we’ve been pretty home bound, and as much as he loves Mommy, Daddy, and Grandma, I know David has been missing playing with his buddies.

So sad!

I’ve been trying to keep things fun for him with legos, movies, and lots of stories! I decided that I would jazz things up for lunch today and create one of his favorite book characters, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, out of fruit. I was surprised at how quickly it came together—I had the whole thing assembled in under 5 minutes, which worked out well since David demanded that I make him “more cabils!” He gobbled up 2 of them!

I’m brainstorming what my next character themed lunch could be. Have you ever made any themed lunches like this?

Here’s what I used, but obviously you could use all kinds of foods to put this together.

Kiwi Berries—body (green grapes would be an easy swap)
Red apple—face
Dried mango—eyes
Fruit leather (strawberry)—eyes and nose
Raisins—feet
Sesame —antenna

starting to perk up!

Cut all ingredients to fit and assemble! Repeat!

busting in on my photo shoot!

Aren’t kiwi berries pretty?
