David and I were on our own tonight, so we headed down the hill to our local farmer’s market for dinner.  Last summer we were regulars, stocking up on berries and vegan cupcakes every week.  My former favorite pizza place was there, but they don’t have a cheeseless option (sold by the slice, not the whole pie), so there weren’t any vegan options for dinner.  This summer the market has expanded though, and they relocated to the waterfront—not too shabby!  So we thought we would check it out—worst case scenario we would get some fresh fruit and heat up some leftovers when we got home.

After circling for 5 minutes we found a parking spot and headed to the market.  We spotted our favorite vegan cupcake spot, Fancy Free Bakery and said we’d be back after we found dinner.  We made our way down to the food truck area and we found Falafel Salam.  Looks like I won’t be cooking on Wednesdays for the rest of the summer—the food was amazing!  They were VERY vegan friendly, labeling all of their dishes, and actually knowing what vegan means!  There were tons of options, but I chose their falafel salad—this week.  The falafel balls were perfectly crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, without being too heavy.  They were on a bed of arugala, topped with tomatoes, cucumbers, and lemon-mango pickled vegetables.  I could eat a plate of just the pickles!  It came with some pita bread, and was dressed with a lemon tahini dressing.

I ordered a plate of hummus with pita for David, not really sure if he would eat it—he’s 2, so it depends on the day minute.  I knew I would eat it if he didn’t.  He proved me wrong though—he ate every bit of that hummus and pita, except for the bites I stole!  And it was yummy hummus!

The pita bread was amazing—super fluffy, light and chewy.  Exactly the way I like it.

I also got David a half pint of raspberries, figuring that he would eat about half and we’d bring the rest home.  He ate the. whole. thing.  I couldn’t believe it when he told me “Mommy, I will be right back.  I am going to get more raspberries.”  Ah, to live in a world with all-you-can-eat raspberry bars!

For dessert we had our Fancy Free Bakery mini cupcakes.  I tried to convince David to wait til we got home but he was not to be stopped.  He had the carrot cake and I had chocolate raspberry.  Yum!  I also brought a Salted Caramel Chocolate brownie home, and may have licked the wrapper clean.  Maybe.
