Melon meets lemonade in this refreshing summertime lemonade frosty!  You’ll come back for sip….after sip….after sip!  A must have as temperatures climb!

It’s summer!

We’ve had a few false starts here—90 degree days in April and May, with dips way down into the 50s just days later—but it seems like SUMMER is finally getting started here in Seattle!  Last week I made a Costco run with both boys in tow—I miss you preschool!—and we made a beeline to the produce section.  As I reached for my staples—bananas, spinach, and strawberries—I noticed 2-packs of perfect cantaloupe melons for just $4.99.  What a deal, especially compared to the $9 I was spending on a box of strawberries that the boys would inhale in one meal.

Suddenly it was made a lot of sense that my mom always had cantaloupe on hand in the summers of my childhood—there were 5 of us after all.  My siblings and I often joke about how my mom would serve us spaghetti with a side of bananas or cantaloupe—hey, gotta eat those fruits and veggies.  But I get it now—such a good value!  I quickly grabbed a pack of melons and put them in our cart.

Lemonade Frosty

I had in my mind that I wanted to make a watermelon fresca, but I changed gears slightly with the cantaloupes in hand.  I had also picked up a huge bag of lemons and I knew they would work together!  Lemonade + MELON = LeMELONade.  Perfect!

After slicing up some of the melon to serve to the boys, I spread some more out on a parchment lined baking sheet and popped them into the freezer overnight.  The next morning I threw the melon, juice from the lemons, a banana, and some dates into the blender and a minute later we were all out on the deck sipping cool lemonade frosty drinks!

Look how easy it is to make!

^^^ Love these summer mornings!

I look forward to a long summer of sitting on the deck in my jammies, watching the boys run around, and sipping cool frosty drinks!  I hope you have fun things to look forward to this summer too!  Whatever your plans are, I hope you’ll give my LeMELONade Frosty a try!  Make sure you take a picture, post it on social media, and tag me with #frieddandelions so that I can see!  Happy blending!

Lemelonade Frosty

Melon meets lemonade in this refreshing summertime frosty! You'll come back for sip....after sip....after sip! A must have as temperatures climb!
Prep Time2 mins

Total Time3 mins
Course: Smoothie
Cuisine: vegan
Servings: 2
Author: Sarah De la Cruz

Ingredients

  • zest of 1 lemon
  • 1/4 c lemon juice juice from 1-2 lemons
  • 1 1/4 c water
  • 1 c frozen canteloupe chunks
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 2-3 dates pits removed

Instructions

  • Place all ingredients into your blender.
  • Blend until completely smooth.
  • Serve and enjoy!

Notes

Be sure to plan ahead—freeze your melon and banana the night before so that it's ready in the morning!
For a less tangy frosty, try eliminating the lemon zest and just using the juice—it has a more mild flavor.

I love your recipes generally. For something like this, could you consider using a metal straw in your videos? Or no straw? There is no dishonour in having a smoothy “moustache”! And it sends a subtle but powerful message.

Hi Penny! I only use biodegradable paper straws in my photography, like the ones pictured in this post. For general beverage consumption we don’t use straws at all, and we avoid plastic straws at all costs. My kids often rock a smoothie mustache—the greener the better! Thanks for your concern—glad you are enjoying my recipes!

    Hi Sarah,
what a wonderful idea to hide fruit 🙂 It sounds so delicious. What do you think, could we also use a honeydew melon instead of canteloupe and dates?

This looks like my type of drink nice and alkalizing, a better thirst quencher than water.

Yes, it’s so refreshing! I hope you enjoy it—I need to freeze some more cantaloupe so I can blend up some more! Yum!
