Saying goodbye to the Farmer’s Market, giving away some chocolate, and a sneak peek at Friday’s recipe!

Today was the last day of my neighborhood farmer’s market. While I’m sad that its done for the year, I’m impressed that it stayed open through the middle of fall! It was a good day—you all helped to vote me into the Top 25 Food Allergy Mom Blogs today—so David and I met Grandma there and we all celebrated with mini cupcakes from our favorite “free from everything” bakery, Fancy Free Bakery. They are dairy free, soy free, gluten free, and mostly egg free—and best of all, delicious!

David and I have walked down just about every Wednesday since May to get these yummy cupcakes! David has had the banana and the orange crème flavors (among many), while I have mostly stuck with the chocolate raspberry—so yummy! I may have also had a huge salted caramel brownie 🙂 They take orders through their web site, and will also be at a few holiday markets for anyone in the area.  The girl who runs the booth every week also gave me a mini-sample of their pumpkin pie!  She had a box of them for her “regulars”—is it scary or awesome that I am a regular at a cupcake stand?  Either way, the pumpkin pie was great, and I was sad that I had to share mine with David—I could have eaten several!  If you’re not up for making a pie from scratch this Thanksgiving I recommend ordering one from Fancy Free Bakery!

We also picked up some dip from Skip’s Dips—think hummus on steroids! A few weeks ago we tried Hummless Verde—white bean hummus with jalapeno’s and cilantro—and we really liked it. Today I picked up the Ghost Pepper dip for Irving—I’m sure its delicious but I can only go so spicy and this one actually comes with a warning on it! I was happy to find out that some of our local grocery stores are carrying the dips throughout the year—what an easy thing to pick up for snacks!

David really enjoyed hanging out on an old tractor that they brought in special for today. He also danced to the live music, and just enjoyed running around looking at everything. The pumpkins were one of his favorites, and the nice girl at the pumpkin stand even sent him home with a mini pumpkin for free!

Goodbye Kirkland Farmer’s Market—we’ll be waiting for you next May!

And now some giveaways! Thanks to all who entered—the randomly selected winners are Sandra, who’s favorite recipe is the Dark Chocolate Pumpkin Peanut Butter Cups, Emily, who’s favorite recipe is Grandpa’s Potato Pancakes, and Anne, who’s favorite recipe (so far, she says!) is Seitan Scallopini. All delicious choices! Ladies, you’ll be contacted directly so you can pick your flavor!

Finally—a teaser for Friday’s recipe!  I’ll be sharing the recipe for my Pan Dulce with homemade Horchata—French toasted infused with Latin flavor, based on one of my old restaurant favorites.  You’re gonna love it!
