Fried Dandelions – the story behind the name

People have been asking what the significance of the name “Fried Dandelions” is.  This name goes WAY back to my childhood, long before I’d even heard of veganism.  My mom took me to the Audubon Society for a children’s activity day when I was 3 years old.  On that day we learned about dandelions, and got to fry them up and eat them.  I never gave that too much thought, other than to tell people that they were edible.

As I began to think about a name for my blog I toyed with every combination of “the-vegan-something-or-other.”  None of those seemed like the right fit.  Many were already taken, and I didn’t want to pigeon hole myself into a title that wouldn’t last.  I also wanted to be careful not to sound forceful about my veganism…I’m a vegan, but I don’t expect everyone around me to become one.  I do want to share lots of great vegan recipes with everyone though!  So Fried Dandelions it is!  Apparently one of those little dandelion seeds was planted some 30 years ago and has finally grown!
