Banana Berry Fresh Smoothie from 40 Days of Green Smoothies

I’m so excited to be sharing a recipe for a Banana Berry Fresh smoothie with you today.  Not only is it delicious, it comes from my good friend Becky Striepe’s new book 40 Days of Green Smoothies!  Becky is the blogger extraordinaire behind the blog Glue & Glitter.  Her blog is stuffed full of down to earth, simple, everyday recipes—her 3 Ingredient Twice Baked BBQ Tofu is on our regular rotation around here—so good!   Not only does she make delicious food, she has helped me with my own blog countless times, coaching me on everything from which widgets to use (yep, that’s a thing!) to photography backgrounds. I count Becky as one of my good blogging buddies and I hope we will someday be able to meet in person.

But ok, enough with the mushy stuff, I know you’re here for the recipe!!!  Becky’s Banana Berry Fresh is such a simple and yummy smoothie to whip up!  She uses a secret green ingredient—PARSLEY!  I’d never tried parsley in a smoothie before, but I was surprised at how mild the flavor was, and how easily it blended in with the other flavors.

I love using smoothies to give me a head start on my daily totals of fruit and veggie servings.  You’d think a vegan would have no trouble getting their daily dose, but I am a carb junkie and will gladly eat pasta 3 times a day.  I’m trying to be more aware of that, and keep things a little more balanced.  Becky’s easy 40 day plan really helps me with that!  She’s got a grocery list for each week’s worth of smoothies which is so helpful.  That way you don’t end up with 29 bags of frozen fruits spilling all over your freezer—she groups the smoothies together so that you can use similar ingredients in different combinations throughout the week.  Of course, if you want to use 29 fruits at a time you could just go out of order!

Becky also shares how to make green smoothies more affordable, like using the same green one week, and then using a different green throughout the next week.  She balances out smaller amounts of pricier frozen fruits like raspberries with affordable powerhouses like bananas!  This green smoothies mean spinach?  Think again—Becky uses kale, collard greens, beet greens, lettuce, and parsley in her green smoothies!

Love these photos! Other than fruity smoothies, I’m a sucker for chocolate peanut butter. 🙂

You can never have too many smoothie recipes! My current fave smoothie is the “gym rat” from the Oh She Glows book. The boys in my family don’t like that one, so more for me and my girls!
