The Christmas season is in full swing in my house!  Decorations have begun, online gift orders have been placed, and we’ve even been working through my list of “family fun” Christmas activities—so far we’ve gone to our town’s tree lighting and ridden the Polar Express train around Mt. Rainier!  In the midst of our busy activities we’ve made time for Christmas treats too!  My favorite is my “Christmas Hot Chocolate!”

Christmas Hot Chocolate

Years ago when I first served David dairy free “eggnog” he asked me why it was called that if there weren’t any eggs in it.  Good point—he’s a smart kid!  Since then we’ve called it Christmas milk.  My Christmas Hot Chocolate uses dairy free “eggnog” to make it extra special—it’s a HUGE hit with my kids!  5 simple ingredients and ready to drink in under 5 minutes—win!

Last week, being the super on it mom that I am (ha—I’m not, but maybe my kids think I am?), I made a batch of my Christmas Hot Chocolate and brought it with us to the Polar Express event.  I knew they would be serving hot chocolate on the train, and that it would likely contain dairy, so I planned ahead and got to be the hero for my kids!  The Dixie® To Go cups were the perfect way to keep the hot chocolate warm and ready for sipping—the boys thought it was so much fun to have special cups!

My Christmas Hot Chocolate is perfect for all of your holiday adventures—say Christmas tree hunting?  Light looking?  Christmas caroling?  Check!  Check!  Check!  Pour it in some Dixie® To Go cups to keep it warm while you’re out and about—your family will thank you for it!

Convenience of Dixie® To Go Cups

Dixie® To Go cups are super convenient when you’re out and about.  They’re made out a recycled paperboard material—not styrofoam!  Easy fitting lids keep hot liquids from leaking—well, as long as your 2 year old doesn’t try to tip their cup over!  And thick cups keep warm liquids in, without being too hot to handle!  Crush busy mornings with a hot beverage on the go—because what busy mom actually has time to sit down and enjoy a quite cup of coffee, er, hot chocolate?

Christmas Hot Chocolate

My Christmas Hot Chocolate is perfect for all of your holiday adventures—pour some in a convenient Dixie To Go cup and you're ready to go!

Course: Beverage
Servings: 8 ounces
Author: Sarah De la Cruz

Ingredients

  • 2 Tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder the kind you use for baking
  • 2 Tablespoons maple syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 3/4 cup water or use non dairy milk to make it even more decadent!
  • 1 cup non dairy "eggnog"

Instructions

  • In a 2 cup measuring cup mix the cocoa powder, cinnamon, and maple syrup. It will be slow to mix, and just when you think I'm crazy and that it will never come together it will suddenly form a magical chocolate paste.
  • Add water and whisk until completely combined.
  • Add non dairy "eggnog" and whisk again.
  • Heat in microwave until hot (alternatively use stove to heat the mixture.). This took me about 2 minutes.
  • Dived the mixture into two Dixie® To Go cups and serve!

Notes

Optional add in—spike your hot chocolate with 1 teaspoon of instant espresso powder for an early morning wake up!
